Apple iPhone May Feature Satellite Radio Application, Sirius XM Could Be Accessed

September 2nd, 2008

News reports have been circulating about the possibility of Apple adding a streaming radio application for its new iPhone. Sirius XM Radio subscribers with Internet radio subscriptions will be able to receive their favorite streaming radio channels without the need for a satellite radio. This application has been long awaited by satellite radio subscribers and could potentially boost Sirius XM Radio’s subscriber base.

After the merger between the two satellite giants, many subscribers for both XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio have been concerned about the need for new satellite radios. Although this concern has been unwarranted due to the news from Sirius that existing radios will continue to work, the potential for purchasing soon-to-be obsolete equipment has prevented some radio listeners from making the leap to satellite radio. This streaming radio application for the iPhone could put some of those fears to rest and increase the number of subscribers to Sirius XM Radio Inc.

The Apple iPhone is a dazzling device that is still making waves across the country and can now provide listeners with the personal radio options that they crave from satellite radio. If Sirius jumps into the game, exclusive content, such as broadcasts from Howard Stern and Martha Stewart, or select sports coverage from SIRIUS NFL Radio and SIRIUS NASCAR Radio could be accessed, while also allowing listeners to switch back over to the iPhone’s other features.

The iPhone streaming radio application would be unsuitable as a vehicle solution – the factory installed satellite radio, or a Sirius satellite mounted radio is still your best bet. But office workers and bus or train commuters would enjoy the ability to connect to the Internet using their iPhone while tuning in for the work day or long ride home.

There is no word whether recording capabilities would be present in the new application, but the Sirius Stiletto 2 can record all your favorite programs, artists and sports games to listen to at a later date. Internet subscribers to Sirius Internet Radio currently do not have that capability

Sirius XM Radio offers over 200 radio channels of various content including multiple music stations that are 100% commercial free. Subscribers have a bountiful selection of sports programs, news radio, and talk shows available including some family programming and classic radio programs alongside a variety of International stations. There is something for everyone ages 5 to 75 on Sirius XM Radio.

SIRIUS XM Radio

August 12th, 2008

The time is now to say goodbye to XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio. The merger has been finalized and the new company has officially changed its named to Sirius XM Radio Inc. as of Wednesday, August 6, 2008. The company is now considered the second biggest radio company in the country. This is based off revenue produced from over 18.5 million subscribers to Sirius XM Radio.

Broadcasting more than 300 channels of content consumers are expected to have new options for audio packages and lower prices. Subscribers are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to include content from both Sirius Radio and XM Radio services. The combined company has exclusive programming with Martha Stewart, Oprah, Howard Stern and more. Each radio service has channels devoted to individual groups or artists such as Elvis, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, and the Grateful Dead among others.

Satellite radio content includes a large array of news, sports and talk radio. Listeners have had the pleasure of hearing complete football games with Sirius NFL Radio, sitting in the drivers seat with Sirius NASCAR Radio, or stepping up to bat with the MLB on XM Radio. Sports program will continue to be a part of Sirius XM Radio packages as will the extensive lineup of news programs from some of the most trusted names in news including CNN, FOX, BBC, and even NPR news.

New packages that will be offered as a result of the merger will include packages featuring the family channels, music packages, or news, talk and sports. Sirius XM Radio Inc. has reported that the new “Best of Both” package selections will be available to subscribers in early fall.

The company has reported that they will make good on their promise to subscribers. Existing radios will continue to work post merger. This has been a big concern to subscribers. Although new package options will be available to subscribers all existing subscribers will be able to maintain their existing subscriptions. For those of us who tend to resist change there is no need to be concerned about making any changes to our existing audio setup due to the merger.

Sirius XM Radio Inc. subscribers and audio enthusiasts should keep watch for the updated offerings this fall. The long awaited merger brings with it the hope that satellite audio entertainment will continue to remain a step above the rest delivering incredible content, commercial free music, complete sports coverage and unique talk personalities.
