The Scott Ferrall Show on Sirius Satellite Radio

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Sirius Satellite Radio has recently announced that they will be entering into an agreement with Scott Ferrall, sports talk personality. Ferrall will continue to host the weeknight sports call-in show, The Scott Ferrall Show, which has become quite popular and gained a tremendous following. The show airs live on Monday through Friday from 8pm-12am ET on Howard 101. This is one of the two Howard Stern channels that are exclusive to Sirius.

Ferrall has developed a reputation for being somewhat no holds barred when it comes to broadcasting. His style; however, is quite popular with many has led to him becoming a leading figure in both talk radio as well as sports for nearly 20 years. Over the years Ferrall has hosted a variety of radio shows in local as well as national markets.

This news is further indication of the steps which Sirius has taken in recently in order to ensure they continue to provide quality, unique broadcasting and programming to subscribers that simply is not available on standard radio programming.

Sirius has become well known for its pledge to provide quality exclusive programming to viewers covering many different genres. The day Howard Stern signed his exclusive deal with Sirius was certainly one of the biggest days in the fledgling history of satellite radio. Stern continues to host his own no holds bared, no censorship program that draws in millions of listeners each and every day.

Just a few months ago, Sirius announced that they had reached an agreement to extend their exclusive deal with Bruce Morrow, otherwise known as ‘Cousin Brucie’ to fans. The deal is a multi-year agreement that will ensure Cousin Brucie remains on the air for many years to come. While Sirius is known for broadcasting programming in many instances that is somewhat edge, Cousin Brucie has proven to be quite popular, along with his Saturday Night Party; a program which originally aired in 1958.

Today he continues to play a variety of popular hits from the 1950s and 1960s. Like many other radio personalities who have found a home on Sirius, Morrow reported that he had chosen to stay with Sirius not only because of the large following he has been able to continue with Sirius but also because of the large degree of creative freedom which he is granted with the company. It is this creative freedom that is continuing to draw some of the biggest names in entertainment and radio away from traditional radio broadcasting and into the satellite radio industry.

Currently Sirius offers 130+ channels to subscribers. It continues to offer the only music channels that are 100% free of commercials while also offering a variety of sports, entertainment, news talk, weather and traffic channels and programming as well. In addition to the variety of sports talk programs such as Ferrall’s show and music programs like Cousin Brucie, Sirius also offers play by play live broadcasts of NFL and NBA games. Live NASCAR races are also broadcast on Sirius.

SIRIUS Satellite Radio Most Wanted

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

You may have heard of the merger of SIRIUS Radio and XM. Interestingly, while the merger will bring many benefits to the company (mostly in combined production costs and additional programming) there are no immediate plans to combine the two satellite networks. Both systems will continue to function, which means, one, the SIRIUS/XM company has a lock on its market, and two, that Satellite Radio is now offering even more selection to its users. What are some of the channels you can expect if you sign up for SIRIUS? Are they comparable or superior to terrestrial radio?

Consider a list of SIRIUS Satellite Radio channels. There are over 130 channel streams on SIRIUS alone. You can listen to all the latest music from your favorite artists with mainstream channels like SIRIUS Hits 1 as well as The Pulse, which features the best of the 1990s and 2000’s. If you have a preference for the Golden Age of music then you can opt to listen to SIRIUS Gold, hits from the 1950s all the way to the 1960s with 60s Vibrations, the 1970s with Totally 70s, and 1980s with the Big 80s. The system of SIRIUS allows for many more niche channels than ordinary radio. Therefore, don’t be surprised to find entire channels devoted to the art of one popular musician, whether it be Elvis Pressley, Jimmy Buffet, The Grateful Dead or Bruce Springsteen.

There are also multiple sub-genres of rock to look through, such as Classic Rock, Glam Metal, Jam Bands, Garage Rock, Indie Rock, Hip-Hop, Heavy Metal, Reggae and Eclectic/Freeform. There is also a variety of country styles, from Classic Country to Bluegrass, and Electronic/Dance music, including Disco, Chill Out music and Trance. If you have more soulful tastes then you can’t go wrong with Contemporary Christian and Gospel channels, not to mention Jazz, classical music and international music found at channels like Universo Latino, Rock Velours and Energie2, the best global charts hits.

What about radio entertainment? If you are looking for news, commentary or comedy then you can tune into the SIRIUS network. SIRIUS leads the way in radio entertainment, most notably in their acquisition of comedian-shock jock Howard Stern. Stern has two channels, one of which broadcasts his live morning show and then ends with reruns. His second channel features a delayed replay of the morning broadcast along with Howard’s friends Bubba the Love Sponge Show and Scott Ferrall. There is also a talk channel with SIRIUS Stars and E! Entertainment Radio for celebrity gossip. Special interest channels include SIRIUS OutQ for gay and lesbian talk radio, Cosmo Radio for women, Martha Stewart Living Radio and Doctor Radio for health and medical information.

The Road Dog Trucking channel will provide trucking entertainment, while Maxim Radio and Playboy Radio spice things up with hot talk. (Remember some adult channels require listeners to “opt-in”) There are four comedy channels to giggle at, including Blue Collar Comedy, Raw Dog, Laugh Break and The Foxxhole, which is comedian and actor Jamie Foxx’s own channel. There are also dozens of channels covering sports, news, religion and traffic and weather.

SIRIUS Satellite Radio offers some of the most prolific programming in any medium.

The Hits

It’s 2008, an election year that is shaping up to be one of the most important Presidential Elections in history and SIRIUS knows that you are pumped. In a country that is completely segregated by the Democratic and Republican parties the focus of the election is once again falling on the highly influential opinions of today’s youth and independents. Therefore, SIRIUS Radio has introduced a new channel called Indie Talk geared towards people interested in having their voices heard.

The most interesting aspect of this channel is that its is structured in a blogcast form, delivering constant updates and listener opinions to the airwaves. Sirius launched this channel the day after Super Tuesday with host Ron Silver in the political driver’s seat. Silver is known for his middle of the conservative-liberal spectrum views and has adopted the idea of uniting Americans by celebrating and appreciating everyone’s political opinions. Silver said, “Indie Talk will give voice to all individuals for an amazing national debate.” Indie Talk will act more like a forum for political thought than a typical talk radio show where the “correct” views are decided upon upfront. News updates will come every 20 minutes in a blogcast format.

Check out Indie Talk on Channel 110 if you are interested in hearing what your fellow Americans have to say. Take a chance and voice your opinions and see the difference it could make in this years election.

“At this hour of increased anxiety amongst America’s diverse cultures, SIRIUS’ thoughtful decision to air ‘Make It Plain’ should leave no doubt about its commitment to informing and empowering all of its listeners,” commented Mark Thompson. “and even break some fresh ground in no better home than one so impressively creative and unbound as SIRIUS Satellite Radio.”

Sports Central: Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 123

Ezine Article by Bob Maines

If you haven’t noticed yet, Sirius Satellite Radio added another channel to its programming. Sirius Sports Central is now on Channel 123 and it’s awesome. For all you fans of the Tony Bruno Show, he’s got his own show now on Sirius. This channel was created for those of us who enjoy all types of sports, not just football.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy football season as much as the next guy. Sports Central definitely has its fair share of football news, but occasionally I enjoy switching gears and talking about a different sport, like what’s going on in boxing, what to expect from LeBron James this year, or how many PGA tour victories Tiger now has under his belt. Sirius Radio says this channel will cover “a variety of professional and college sports” and I think that description is right on target.

So back to the Tony Bruno Show - if you are not already familiar with the award-winning Bruno, you should be. His show airs weekdays from 9:00 am-1:00 pm ET. Bruno is one of the best sports talk show hosts alive and has the experience and recognition to back it up. He’s been in the biz for 35+ years and has covered everything from the Super Bowl to the Olympics to the Kentucky Derby. You name it, he’s been there. In addition to Bruno, Sirius Sports Central will broadcast The Arnie Spanier Show, Todd Wright Tonight, and the David Stein Show.

My favorite part about the new Sports channel are the new programs Sirius created in addition to the exclusive programming that already exists. So if you like listening to the college sports show, “Rivals Radio,” then you’ll enjoy “The Sirius College Football Coaches Show.” And if you like the sports business talk show with marketing and collectibles experts Brandon Steiner and Andrew Bogusch then you might also enjoy the “ABC’s of Sports,” a caller oriented show about making sports more enjoyable for competitors and spectators.

One of the coolest programs is Sirius Fight Club hosted by Randy Gordon. Gordon is the former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission and former Editor-in-Chief of The Ring magazine. So all you fight fans will be happy to know that Gordon is covering everything that is going on in boxing and mixed martial arts. Sirius Fight Club isn’t a secret though, so tell all your buddies it’s okay to talk about it.

SiriusSatellite Radio offers a ton of sports programming including NFL Radio on channel 124, NASCAR Radio on channel 128, and NBA Radio on channel 127 in addition to this new channel. If you’re any kind of sports fan then you’re going to really enjoy Sirius Sports Central Station on Channel 123.

Grateful Dead Channel Now on Sirius Satellite Radio

The Grateful Dead: Sirius Radio Channel 123

Ezine Article by Bob Maines

SIRIUS Satellite Radio recently launched a new music channel dedicated exclusively to the Grateful Dead on channel 32 and here’s it what I heard in just the first couple of hours. To kick off the new channel, SIRIUS aired a rarely heard recording of a 1974 concert from the Hollywood Bowl as well as a talk session with Bob Weir.

In listening to the newly added channel over the weekend I was able to tune into archived as well as recent interviews with some of the band members, jam out to some sweet music that I haven’t listened to in a long time, and reminisce with some fans about their incredible experiences with the Dead. If you often refer to yourself as a bona fide Deadhead then I think its time you checked out this station for your road trips.

The coolest part about this new channel is that it will really start to take shape as more subscribers volunteer their input on what they what to hear and talk about. Bob Weir even has his own show called “Bob Weir Behind the Mic” where he hosts an hour-long show to play and discuss the country-influenced music from the Dead. Weir won’t be the only Grateful Dead band member involved in this channel, it looks like Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, fan and member Bruce Hornsby, and lyricist John Perry Barlow will be joining in the fun as well. You can also look forward to hearing unreleased concert recordings, live performances, archived interviews with Jerry Garcia, and more.

Personally, my favorite part about the new channel besides 24/7 access to my favorite rock band of all times is the “Today in Grateful Dead History” segment. This segment will help you think back to your favorite memories of the Dead as David Lemieux, a Grateful Dead archivist, takes you back one day at a time to the events and the music that shaped the music world as we know it today. All in all it looks like the new Grateful Dead channel will be programmed as one of my favorites on my SIRIUS radio. You can find the Grateful Dead station 24/7 commercial-free on channel number 32.

If you find that you can actually tear yourself away from the new Grateful Dead channel I also suggest checking out Jam_On on channel 17, Jimmy Buffett’s Radio Margaritaville on Channel 31 and SIRIUS Blues on channel 74. These are just a handful of my favorite channels on SIRIUS Satellite Radio that are kind of similar to this new channel.
